Motihari: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, police in Bihar’s East Champaran district have seized 124 kilograms of cannabis (Ganja) allegedly smuggled from Nepal. The operation, carried out jointly by the Excise Department and Chiraiya police, resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the launch of a broader investigation into the cross-border drug network.
The seizure was made during a vehicle check near the Indo-Nepal border, following a tip-off about narcotics being transported in a Scorpio SUV. Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat had received the information.
According to officials, the driver attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended after a brief chase. A detailed search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the large cannabis consignment, valued at approximately ₹40 lakh in the illegal drug market.
The two arrested individuals have been identified as Pannalal Kumar, a resident of Chhauradano, and Rajesh Kumar from Sangrampur. Police have also named two key suspects, Sanjay Yadav and Mukesh Yadav, believed to be the masterminds behind the smuggling operation. Both are currently absconding.
Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat confirmed that the case is being investigated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. He added that further arrests are likely as authorities work to dismantle the smuggling network.
