five children of same family drowned in Bihar

Bhabhua: A tragic incident took place in Dhawpokhar village of Rampur block in Kaimur district, Bihar, where five children from the same family lost their lives due to drowning. The heart-wrenching incident occurred when eight children had gone for a bath in a pond, resulting in the unfortunate demise of three sisters, a cousin, and a maternal cousin.

The deceased are identified as Anu Priya (12), Anshu Priya (10), and Madhu Kumari (8), who were the daughters of teacher Sushil Ram. Additionally, Sunil Ram’s daughter Apurva Kumari and Sushil and Sunil’s sister Rinku Devi’s son Aman Kumar also lost their lives in the tragic drowning incident.

Surviving this devastating event are Sunil Ram’s son Ayush (10) and daughter Ayushi (8), along with Sushil Ram’s son Ankit Kumar (11). Aman Kumar is the son of Jokhu Ram, a resident of Dhankhada village under the Mufsil police station area in Rohtas district, while the others hailed from Dhavpokhar village.

The incident took place when Rinku Devi, visiting her maternal home in Dhawpokhar for the past two days, had gone to harvest paddy on Monday morning. All eight children had brought food to the farm. Following their meal, they proceeded to bathe in the Fakirana pond located in Kurari village. Tragically, five children ventured into deep water, while the remaining three stayed on the pond’s banks.

Upon witnessing the drowning of the five children, those on the banks immediately informed Rinku Devi, who was still working in the field. Despite her efforts to pull out two children, she too found herself in distress. Fortunately, Rinku Devi managed to save herself from the water.

A villager who learned of the incident rushed to the pond and, through a phone call, alerted other villagers. Subsequently, the community rallied together to rescue the three drowned children. The victims were transported to a private hospital in Telari and later to Kudra for further examination. The doctors declared all five children dead. Later, police sent the bodies to Bhabhua Sadar Hospital.

Bhabhua Zilla Parishad member Vikas Singh has demanded compensation from the government for the kin of the deceased children.
