PATNA – In an innovative collaboration between AIIMS Patna and the Bihar Police Department, 35 Deputy Superintendents of Police (Dy.S.P.) recently underwent specialized trauma training at AIIMS Patna under the guidance of Executive Director of AIIMS Patna Dr G.K.Pal.

Traditionally, Dy.S.P. officers receive their training at the Bihar Police Academy, but this unique initiative aims to enhance their skills in providing crucial pre-hospital care to trauma victims said Dr G.K.Pal.

The training, conducted by the esteemed Trauma Surgery Department at AIIMS Patna, focused on essential aspects of trauma care. Led by Prof. (Dr.) Anil Kumar, the head of the Trauma Department, the training covered topics such as controlling bleeding, shifting trauma victims to nearby hospitals, applying cervical collars, maintaining airways, and administering CPR in patients exhibiting no signs of circulation and breathing. As all trauma patients are assumed to have cervical spinal cord injury so its mandatory to restrict the cervical spine by blanket, brick or any soft item to prevent the further movement in cervical spine.

During the trauma training sessions, our esteemed faculty, including Dr. Anil Kumar, Dr. Anurag Kumar, Dr. Majid Anwer, Dr. Rekha Kumari, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar, conducted hands-on demonstrations across five skill stations. The training covered essential skills in trauma care, including triage techniques, bleeding control methods, specialized care for head injuries, principles of intensive care unit (ICU) management, and critical considerations during anesthesia administration. These interactive and practical sessions aimed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle diverse aspects of trauma care efficiently.

The Deputy Superintendents of Police were also given additional training in the Forensic Department by Dr. Amit Kumar Patil and Dr. Vinay Kumar. This segment of the training emphasized the medicolegal aspects of dealing with trauma patients, including the proper procedures for creating injury reports and the guidelines for post-mortem examinations.

Expressing his satisfaction with the initiative, Dr. G.K. Pal, the Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Patna, commended the joint effort of the Institute and the Police Department.

He stated, “This collaboration signifies a great initiative to provide effective pre-hospital care. We believe that this step will significantly contribute to reducing the mortality and morbidity rates of trauma patients in the region.”
