Patna: Starting June 23, 2025, all government school teachers in Bihar will be required to submit leave applications exclusively through the e-Shikshakosh portal, as per a directive issued by the state’s Education Department. This move aims to digitize administrative processes and enhance transparency in leave management.
Under the new system, teachers must log in to the e-Shikshakosh platform to apply for various types of leave, including maternity, paternity, earned, and extraordinary leave. Approvals will also be processed online by the respective authorities. For instance, block education officers will handle leave requests from headmasters and acting headmasters, while headmasters will approve applications from assistant and special teachers.
The policy outlines specific entitlements: female teachers are eligible for up to six months of paid maternity leave and may avail up to two years of child care leave for two children. Male teachers are entitled to 15 days of paternity leave. Additionally, teachers can apply for up to 300 days of earned leave with district education officer approval. Leaves for personal reasons or health issues may be granted with half pay, subject to verification. Extraordinary leave without pay requires DEO approval.
The e-Shikshakosh portal, developed by the Bihar Education Project Council, serves as a comprehensive digital platform for managing teacher records, attendance, and administrative tasks. It also facilitates grievance redressal, allowing educators to file complaints online, thereby reducing the need for physical visits to administrative offices.
