Nalanda: A farmer fell victim to a fatal attack by unidentified assailants in Nalanda last night. The incident unfolded when a group of over 12 criminals ambushed the farmer, firing five rounds at him. The bullets struck him in the stomach, hand, head, back, and near the eye. The incident occurred as the farmer, along with two companions, was returning from the fields after weeding.

While the criminals targeted the farmer, his two companions miraculously escaped unscathed. Following the attack, the perpetrators fled the scene, prompting villagers to notify the authorities.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Yadav (35), a resident of Balwapur village. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, with the victim’s family members remaining tight-lipped about the circumstances. The incident transpired in Balwapur village, within the jurisdiction of the Gokulpur police station.

Upon receiving the news, the police transported the victim’s body to Bihar Sharif Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination. According to local accounts, Yadav had ventured to the fields with two fellow villagers to gather crops when the assailants struck, outnumbering and fatally shooting him.

Speculation abounds that the murder may have stemmed from past grievances or financial dealings, although concrete details are scant. Yadav, known for his involvement in village development projects, leaves behind two daughters and a son. Additionally, his father, recently nursing a broken leg, continues to undergo treatment in Bihar Sharif.
