Patna: The Bihar Road Safety Council meeting was held at the Chief Secretariat under the chairmanship of Transport Minister Sheela Kumari. The meeting focused on reviewing road safety measures and actions taken by various departments, including Transport, Road Construction, Health, and Police. Discussions highlighted collective efforts to reduce road accidents and ensure timely compensation for victims.
Minister Sheela Kumari emphasized the need for cooperation among stakeholders to decrease road fatalities and improve the compensation process for accident victims. She also stressed the importance of addressing road encroachments and potholes, directing immediate repairs to the service roads of National Highways and installation of railings to prevent accidents.
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal noted that Bihar leads in compensating victims of hit-and-run accidents, with 77 percent of the total payments disbursed under the scheme. He further stated that the enforcement mechanisms are being strengthened, with additional signage and medical assistance being prioritized to address accidents during the critical golden hour.
State Transport Commissioner Naveen Kumar outlined future plans, including the construction of traffic parks and the use of driving testing tracks in 25 districts. The meeting also discussed efforts to raise road safety awareness through campaigns in schools and public spaces across the state.
