Bhojpur Woman, Thought Dead, Found Alive After Four Years; Family Imprisoned for 'Murder' Cleared

Bhojpur: In a shocking turn of events, a woman believed to have been murdered resurfaced in Bhojpur, four years after her alleged death. Her husband, father-in-law, and elder brother-in-law had been imprisoned for three years for her supposed murder, based on the discovery of a body in 2020. The case took a dramatic twist when the woman’s father-in-law spotted her at a local fair on October 8 and immediately informed the police.

The woman revealed that she had fled her home four years ago due to inappropriate behavior by her father. After her mother’s death, she had been living at her father’s house, where he allegedly pressured her into a relationship. Unable to bear the situation any longer, she ran away to Ara railway station, intending to commit suicide. However, she was stopped by a man named Ajay, who later married her and took her to his home in Mirganj.

The woman’s husband explained that he had married her in 2015, and they had a son who died due to her negligence. Following her mother’s death in 2016, she moved to live with her father. Her father later filed a dowry harassment case against her husband’s family and accused them of murder after a woman’s body was found in the Son River on October 29, 2020. Despite the family’s insistence that the body was not hers, the husband and his relatives were imprisoned.

The mother of the accused said their household suffered greatly during their time in jail. With no earning members, she was forced to work in other people’s homes to support the family. No assistance was provided by the community or local leaders, leaving them in dire circumstances.

After being released, the father-in-law spotted his daughter-in-law alive at a Durga Puja fair and immediately alerted the police. Following her detention, the woman admitted to having fled her family due to her father’s actions and remarried.

ASP Piro Krishnakant Singh confirmed that the woman has been found alive, and the accused in the murder case have been proven innocent. Legal proceedings are underway, and the victim’s statement is being recorded in court under Section 164 regarding the accusations against her father.
