Bihar Teachers’ Transfer Process Begins, App Crashes Amid High Demand
Patna: In a significant development for Bihar’s education sector, the state government has launched a long-awaited transfer process for over 500,000 teachers. Teachers across the state—whether appointed through the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), under Sakshamta, or through older appointment processes—now have the opportunity to apply for transfers via the e-Shiksha Kosh portal.
The launch, however, was marred by technical difficulties as the e-Shiksha Kosh platform crashed shortly after applications opened, leaving many teachers facing repeated timeouts. Teachers reportedly attempted to access the portal throughout the night, only to encounter ongoing issues. Despite the initial technical hiccups, Additional Chief Secretary for Education, Dr. Siddharth, has assured teachers that they have ample time, emphasizing there is no need to rush.
Teachers have until November 22 to submit their applications on the portal. The process offers female teachers and those with serious health issues the option to choose specific Panchayats, while male teachers are given the option to select preferred subdivisions. To avoid conflicts of interest, female teachers are restricted from selecting their home or in-laws’ Panchayat, and male teachers cannot choose their own or in-laws’ subdivision.
Applicants must provide a list of 10 preferred locations in their transfer request. If none of these options are available, teachers will be assigned to a nearby Panchayat or subdivision. Additionally, teachers appointed under the TRE 1 and TRE 2 programs are required to submit their applications, though those who prefer to remain in their current posts can opt out by selecting “Transfer No” on the portal.
This move by the Bihar government is aimed at addressing long-standing transfer demands from teachers across the state.
