The project includes the construction of a new integrated terminal building, utility building, elevated road, electro-mechanical works, airport systems, IT systems, and security infrastructure. With the issuance of the work order, the tender process has been completed. The technical bid was opened on Nov 21, 2024, followed by the financial bid on Dec 20, 2024, through the CPP portal. AAI has now directed the company to submit at least three design consultant proposals within ten days, after which the final selection will be made.

The total cost of the project is 30.92% lower than the initial estimate of Rs. 665.85 crore. Of the total budget, Rs. 438 crore will be allocated to capital construction, while Rs. 21.99 crore will be spent on operation and maintenance. The new terminal is expected to accommodate up to 3,000 passengers at a time, with 10 aircraft parking bays designed for A-321, B-737-800, and A-320 type aircraft. There are also plans to extend the runway to 3,700 meters.

The construction of Bihta Airport aims to ease congestion at Patna Airport while enhancing air connectivity for Bihar. The project is expected to drive economic and industrial growth in the region. AAI has set a target to complete the airport by the end of 2027, further strengthening Bihar’s integration with national and international air routes.
