Accident on Gandhi Setu in Patna Amid Dense Fog as Bihar Grapples with Cold Wave

Patna: A yellow alert for dense fog has been issued for eight districts in Bihar on Monday, while the weather is expected to remain normal in the remaining 30 districts, according to the Meteorological Center. Light rain is also predicted in some areas of the state, with minimum temperatures likely to range between 6°C and 12°C over the next few days.

Meteorologist Kumar Gaurav from Patna Meteorological Center said, “Westerly winds will blow across the state at a speed of 7 to 5.8 km/h, intensifying the cold at night. On Monday morning, dense fog is expected in districts near the Terai region in North Bihar. No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over the next three days.”

Fog-Related Accident on Gandhi Setu

Late on Sunday night, dense fog caused a three-vehicle collision on the Mahatma Gandhi Setu in Patna near pillar number 7 on the Hajipur side. A truck, dumper, and bus were involved in the accident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Schools Reopen After Extended Cold Break

In light of severe cold conditions, schools up to Class 8 were previously ordered to remain closed in several districts, including Patna. However, all government and private schools in the capital have reopened from Monday, as per an order from the District Magistrate. Schools will now operate between 9 am and 3:30 pm, with the directive effective until January 31.

Sunday’s Weather Recap

The state experienced dry weather on Sunday, with temperatures varying significantly across districts. Buxar recorded the highest temperature at 25.8°C, while Rohtas was the coldest, with the mercury dipping to 5.5°C in the past 24 hours.

As winter tightens its grip, residents are advised to take precautions, particularly during foggy mornings, and to stay updated on weather alerts.
