Advocate and Son Shot Dead On Way to Chhapra Court, Lawyers Protest
Chhapra: An advocate and his son were shot dead in Methwalia village, under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station, on Tuesday morning. The killings, which are believed to be the result of a land dispute, have sent shockwaves through the local community.
The victims, identified as 55-year-old Ram Ayodhya Rai and his son Sunil Kumar Rai, were on their way to Chhapra civil court when they were ambushed near the Dudhiya bridge. Eyewitnesses reported that unknown assailants opened fire on the father and son as they were riding their motorcycle. Both men were taken to Sadar Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Following the incident, a large crowd gathered at the scene, and local police were dispatched to investigate. There is significant anger among the victims’ family members, and tensions are high between the parties involved. As a precaution, a substantial police presence has been deployed to maintain law and order.
Saran Superintendent of Police, Dr. Kumar Ashish, has taken the incident seriously, forming a special team led by Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajkishore Singh to conduct raids and apprehend the suspects. According to the police, the murders stem from an ongoing dispute over four bighas of land between the victims and their neighbours.
SDPO Singh confirmed that four individuals have been named in connection with the case, with two already in custody and efforts underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
In response to the double murder, local advocates have boycotted court proceedings, leaving many litigants without recourse. The community is in mourning, and calls for justice are growing louder as the investigation continues.
