Akasa Airlines to Begin Operations from Darbhanga, Expanding Air Connectivity

Darbhanga/Patna: Darbhanga Airport is set to witness further expansion as Akasa Airlines launches its first flight from the Mithila region on Friday, joining IndiGo and SpiceJet in providing air connectivity. The airline has already commenced ticket bookings for its Delhi-Darbhanga route, with fares ranging between Rs 2,500 and Rs 2,700. The inaugural flight is scheduled to depart from Delhi at 9:00 am and land in Darbhanga at 10:55 am.

Since its inauguration under the UDAN scheme on November 8, 2020, Darbhanga Airport has grown into one of India’s most successful regional airports. The introduction of Akasa Airlines marks another milestone, increasing the number of daily flight pairs from eight to ten. Local residents and industry experts anticipate a surge in passenger movement, reinforcing Darbhanga’s importance as a key aviation hub in Bihar.

Akasa Airlines has also secured slots for flights on the Mumbai and Delhi routes, with two new services set to commence on April 4. The launch will be flagged off by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, alongside Darbhanga MP and Airport Advisory Committee Chairman Dr. Gopal Ji Thakur.

Ahead of the launch, MP Gopal Ji Thakur met the Civil Aviation Minister in New Delhi to express gratitude for the expansion and submitted a formal request to introduce flight announcements in Maithili at Darbhanga Airport. He also presented a list of infrastructural improvements needed at the facility.

With Akasa Airlines entering the market, Darbhanga Airport will now host a total of 14 flights on the Delhi route alone, operated by SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Akasa. The increased competition is expected to bring down airfares, benefiting passengers and boosting regional connectivity in Bihar.
