Patna: Civic and security preparations are in full swing in Patna as the city readies to host its first-ever Surya Kiran Aerobatic Show by the Indian Air Force on April 23. The show, to be held on the occasion of Shaurya Diwas, will feature nine Hawk-132 jets performing precision aerial manoeuvres over the iconic JP Ganga Path.

On Saturday, Patna District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh chaired a high-level review meeting at the Collectorate before visiting the event venue near Sabhyata Dwar to assess preparations on the ground. “It is a matter of immense pride for Patna, Bihar, and all of us Biharis that this prestigious event is taking place here for the first time,” Singh said. “This will be an unforgettable moment for the city and its people.”

The Surya Kiran team is scheduled to arrive in Patna on April 21. A full dress rehearsal will take place on April 22, followed by the main air show on April 23. The event is being organised as a state function in coordination with the Cabinet Secretariat Department, the Indian Air Force, and the Airport Authority of India.

While the grand show is open to all, April 22 has been specially dedicated to school and college students. “This initiative aims to inspire the youth, build awareness about the Indian Air Force, and spark interest in defence careers,” Singh added.

Ten dedicated administrative cells are working under the leadership of the Deputy Development Commissioner to ensure seamless execution. Key departments—including education, traffic, public health, fire safety, and disaster management—have been directed to complete their tasks in line with state government protocols.

Instructions have been issued to deploy adequate magistrates and police officers, establish a temporary control room and hospital, and ensure the installation of water tankers, water ATMs, temporary toilets (including pink toilets), and fire tenders. SDRF, NDRF and Civil Defence teams will also be stationed at the site to respond to emergencies.

To ensure safety, the operation of private boats between JP Setu and Gandhi Setu will be temporarily suspended during the event. The Sub-Divisional Officers of Patna Sadar and Patna City are overseeing enforcement.

Deputy Development Commissioner has been tasked with overall supervision, and all departments have been instructed to expedite work within the prescribed guidelines and timelines.
