Patna: Bihar took a significant step toward the global sporting stage on Saturday as officials signed the agreement Women’s Kabaddi World Cup 2025. The formal signing ceremony saw Jitendra Pran Singh Thakur, Secretary of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India, and Ravindran Shankaran, Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority, ink the deal.
The event, held in Patna, was attended by key figures including Ravindranath Chaudhary, Anand Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Tejaswi Singh Gehlot, and Kumar Vijay. India’s captain Sonali Vishnu and vice-captain Pushpa Rana were also present and received symbolic honours from Shankaran.
Speaking on the occasion, Shankaran said it was a matter of pride for Bihar to host the Women’s World Cup for the first time in Rajgir, adding that consistent government support had helped position the state as a rising force in national and international sports.
The tournament, to be held from June 1 to June 10, will feature teams from 14 countries including India, Iran, Bangladesh, Nepal, Thailand, Holland, Japan, Poland, Argentina, Hungary, Germany, Kenya, and Uganda.
While entry to matches will be free, online registration is mandatory to obtain passes. To accommodate fans unable to enter the venue, large LED screens will be set up outside.
Officials assured full logistical support for the athletes, including travel, accommodation, and meals. Plans are also underway to host a training camp for the Indian team in Rajgir ahead of the competition — a move aimed at benefiting both national players and budding local talent.
