Amit Shah Questions Alliance Silence on Corruption, Accuses Opposition of Campaigning in Fear

Patna: In the aftermath of a substantial cash recovery during an Income Tax Department raid at the residence of Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dheeraj Sahu in Jharkhand, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah expressed astonishment, stating that such a colossal sum of money has not been unearthed from the home of any MP since independence.

Addressing the media at Patna, Minister Shah emphasized that the recovery of hundreds of crores of rupees from an MP’s residence warranted attention, and he criticized the entire Indian alliance for maintaining a conspicuous silence on the matter. Shah questioned the Congress’s allies, including Trinamool Congress, JD (U), RJD, DMK, and SP, asking why they had refrained from addressing the issue. He singled out the Congress, suggesting that their silence was expected, given their historical association with corruption. However, he found it perplexing that other parties within the alliance remained quiet.

Taking a swipe at the opposition, Shah asserted that the recent campaign against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the alleged misuse of investigative agencies was a tactic to divert attention from their own potential corruption. The discovery of substantial cash in a state like Jharkhand, marked by economic challenges, was characterized by Shah as a revelation that demanded scrutiny.

In response to those dismissing the investigation as political malice, Shah argued that the scale of corruption revealed warranted a thorough response from the agencies involved. He called into question the capabilities of the agencies, emphasizing that silence in the face of rampant corruption raised concerns. Shah challenged leaders across the Indian alliance, from Rahul Gandhi to others, to provide answers.

Stressing the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment to combating corruption since 2014, Shah pledged that the party would take the issue to every corner of the country, striving to raise public awareness. He underscored the importance of continued efforts to combat corruption and highlighted the steps taken by the BJP-led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.
