Patna: Bihar’s Animal and Fisheries Resources Department has directed officials to expedite the implementation of key schemes aimed at supporting cattle farmers and improving livestock development in the state.

At a review meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Dr N Vijayalakshmi, Additional Chief Secretary of the department, district and headquarters officials of the Directorate of Cow Development assessed the progress of several flagship programmes, including the Samagra Cow Development Scheme, Desi Cow Farming Promotion Scheme, and the Pashu Bima Yojana (Animal Insurance Scheme).

Dr Vijayalakshmi urged officials to prioritise the timely execution of these schemes to ensure that their benefits reach livestock farmers effectively. She stressed that these initiatives are directly linked to the economic well-being of cattle owners across Bihar.

Highlighting the need for better outreach, Dr Vijayalakshmi instructed officials to strengthen communication with livestock farmers and raise awareness about the advantages of animal insurance. She also directed the department to formulate a concrete strategy to promote training programmes and ensure that cattle farmers are actively engaged.

The meeting was attended by Director (Cows) Kedar Nath Singh, Joint Director (Headquarters), regional joint directors, and district-level cow development officers, who presented updates on progress achieved so far and outlined plans for the coming months.
