Patna: Former Mokama MLA and controversial strongman Anant Singh was released from jail on a one-day parole on Wednesday to attend a family wedding. Singh, often referred to as a ‘bahubali’ leader in Bihar’s political landscape, was allowed temporary release to participate in the wedding of his granddaughter — the daughter of his nephew Rajesh Singh.
Singh arrived in Nauranga village amid tight security and in the presence of his supporters. His return to the village has reignited memories of the violent Mokama shootout, which led to his surrender in court earlier this year.
The shootout, which took place on the evening of January 22, involved a clash between Singh’s supporters and local gangsters identified as Sonu and Monu. Eyewitnesses claimed over 100 rounds were fired during the incident. The violence reportedly erupted during Singh’s visit to the village, highlighting the enduring tensions between rival groups.
Singh, a dominant figure in Patna and its adjoining areas, has multiple criminal cases against him and was serving time for his alleged involvement in the shootout. His release for a family occasion has drawn media attention, though officials confirmed that it complied with legal provisions for temporary parole in personal emergencies.
