Bakhtiyarpur–Tajpur Ganga Bridge 60% Complete, Officials Brief CM Nitish Kumar During Inspection

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday reviewed construction progress on the under-construction Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge, a major infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity across the Ganga river between north and south Bihar.
Accompanied by senior officials, CM Nitish visited the construction site, travelling from Karjan on the Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama four-lane bypass to the riverbank at Kalyanpur in Athmalgola block, where he examined the ongoing work.
Briefing the Chief Minister, Road Construction Department Secretary Sandeep Pudukalkatti said that nearly 60% of the greenfield Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur bridge has been completed. Spanning 5.5 kilometres across the Ganga, the bridge will provide a direct link between National Highway 31 and National Highway 28, enhancing connectivity between north and south Bihar.
Work on a 16.2 km approach road from Tajpur to Chaklalshahi in Samastipur district has been finished, while construction of the approach roads, railway overbridges (ROBs) and other structures on the Patna district side is still in progress.

CM Nitish urged officials to accelerate the project to ensure its timely completion, highlighting its significance in easing traffic congestion on the overburdened Mahatma Gandhi Setu and Rajendra Setu bridges. “This bridge will be crucial for facilitating movement between north and south Bihar, easing public travel and saving time for those visiting tourist spots, religious places, educational hubs and major hospitals,” he said.
He assured that funding would not be a constraint. “The state government will provide whatever resources are needed for this project,” he added, noting that the bridge will serve as an alternative route for vehicles travelling from Samastipur, Muzaffarpur and Begusarai.
The Bakhtiyarpur-Tajpur four-lane bridge and its approach roads are being built at a cost of Rs 2,875.02 crore by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation. The total length of the project is 51.26 kilometres, with the bridge itself spanning 5.51 kilometres and the approach roads covering 45.75 kilometres.
Senior officials, including Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Development Commissioner Pratyaya Amrit, Bihar State Road Development Corporation Managing Director Shirshat Kapil Ashok, and Patna Divisional Commissioner Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, were present during the inspection.
