Begusarai Set for Transformation with Major Infrastructure and Industrial Projects in 2025
Begusarai: The district of Begusarai in Bihar is poised for a transformative year as four major infrastructure and industrial projects are set for completion. These initiatives, led by the central government, promise to boost local industry, enhance connectivity, and provide significant economic opportunities for the region.
Polypropylene Production to Revolutionise the Plastic Industry
A petrochemical project at the Barauni Refinery is expected to be a game-changer for Bihar’s industrial landscape. The facility, which includes a 220 KTPA polypropylene unit, is nearing completion as part of the BR-09 expansion. Once operational, it will usher in a new era for Bihar’s plastic industry, reducing dependence on other states for raw materials and creating local self-employment opportunities.
Polypropylene, a versatile polymer, is essential for various industries. It will enable the local manufacturing of automotive parts, healthcare items such as PPE kits and syringes, cement packaging materials, and consumer goods like toys and furniture.
Satya Prakash, executive director of the Barauni Refinery, highlighted the long-awaited project: “This will boost downstream industries and open up new opportunities in Bihar, which has been waiting for such a development for decades.”
Double-Line Rail Bridge to Boost Connectivity
A double-line rail bridge parallel to the existing Rajendra Bridge over the Ganga is slated for completion by 2025. At a cost of Rs 1,100 crore, the 1.86 km bridge will significantly improve connectivity between Northeast India and the rest of the country.
The bridge is also expected to expedite military logistics, enabling the Indian Army to reach the China border more efficiently. The current single-track system often causes delays, but the new double line will streamline operations and reduce travel time for passengers and goods.
Key features include modern rail facilities, including five tracks and three platforms at the newly constructed Rajendra Pool station, which will include lifts, food plazas, and parking facilities.
Six-Lane Road Bridge Over the Ganga
Operation on Bihar’s first extra-dosed stay cable six-lane road bridge is expected to begin this year. The bridge, connecting Aunta in Patna to Simaria in Begusarai, spans 1.865 km with a total length, including approach roads, of 8.15 km.
Constructed using cutting-edge technology, the Rsb1,161 crore bridge features 34-meter-wide lanes and separate footpaths for pedestrians and cyclists. Once operational, it will facilitate seamless traffic flow and reduce congestion in the region.
Flyover to Ease Traffic in Begusarai
In addition, a flyover on NH-31 in Begusarai is being constructed at a cost of Rs 300 crore. The project will alleviate the persistent traffic jams in the district headquarters and improve connectivity to Northeast India. Originally planned to extend to Traffic Chowk, the flyover’s length has been increased to Jail Gate, enhancing its utility.
A Vision for Regional and International Impact
Union Minister Giriraj Singh lauded the projects, stating that they align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sankalp Se Siddhi Abhiyan initiative. “These projects will not only benefit Begusarai but also the entire state of Bihar, neighbouring areas, and even nearby countries,” he said.
The completion of these initiatives marks a turning point for Begusarai, setting the stage for industrial and infrastructural growth that could position the district as a hub of development in the region.
