Bhagaiya Silk Ties from Bihar See Surge in Exports to India and Abroad

Patna: The Bihar State Khadi Gramodyog Board is on a mission to elevate Bihar’s traditional crafts onto the global stage. In a significant move, the board has introduced innovative designs for ties made from Bhagaiya silk, a renowned fabric from the region.

These unique ties, featuring intricate Madhubani, Manjusha, and Kohbar paintings with a modern twist, are now being exported internationally through Ganesh Peace Foundation, a certified Bihar Khadi institution.

Bhagaiya silk, known for its quality and durability, has traditionally been used in shawls, sarees, and kurtas. This initiative aims to expand the market for Bhagaiya silk by introducing it to a new segment – men’s fashion accessories.

The project has not only generated employment opportunities but also empowered local artisans, particularly women. Over 90 women have received specialized training in tie-making and painting techniques.

The exquisite designs and superior quality of these Bhagaiya silk ties have garnered significant attention both domestically and internationally. This success story serves as a testament to the potential of Bihar’s rich cultural heritage to contribute to economic growth and create sustainable livelihoods.

The initiative is seen as a crucial step towards promoting Bhagaiya silk and traditional art forms like Madhubani painting on the global stage.
