Bhagalpur: Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University has become the centre of controversy once again, as several Syndicate members staged a sit-in protest outside Vice Chancellor Jawaharlal’s official residence on Sunday. The protest, which drew attention to alleged corruption and non-payment of salaries, has intensified concerns over the functioning of the university’s top administration.
Mohammad Mushfiq, a Syndicate member, made serious allegations against the Vice Chancellor, claiming that pension payments are being delayed unless bribes are paid. He further alleged that the Vice Chancellor has turned his official residence into his operational office, which has allowed irregularities—particularly in the examination department—to go unchecked.
Krishna Kumar Mandal, another Syndicate member and Associate Professor, stated that salaries for principals and teaching staff have been withheld without justification. “We will continue our protest until the dues are cleared,” he said, describing the actions as a form of extortion.
Protesters accused the Vice Chancellor of misusing his authority and avoiding Syndicate meetings to suppress dissent. They alleged that he is intentionally engaging teachers in unrelated tasks while demanding payments in return. The protestors also highlighted that this issue affects not only them but also all retired employees of the university.
The protest was joined by senior members including Nirlesh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, and Mushfiq Alam, who warned that the agitation could escalate if their demands remain unaddressed. As of now, the university administration has not issued a formal response to the allegations.
