Patna: A new Bhojpuri song inspired by the chilling Saurabh Rajput murder case in Meerut has triggered widespread outrage across social media platforms, with users accusing the creators of sensationalising a gruesome crime for entertainment.
The song, titled Drum Mein Raja, references the blue plastic drum that became central to the murder investigation after Saurabh’s dismembered body was discovered sealed in cement inside it. The case, which shocked the nation, involved Saurabh’s wife, Muskaan, and her alleged lover Sahil, who were accused of carrying out the murder and attempting to conceal the crime in horrifying fashion.
While the blue drum had already sparked a wave of online memes and commentary, this latest turn by the Bhojpuri music industry has drawn sharp criticism for crossing a line. The music video, reportedly filmed with multiple people standing inside similar drums with their mouths and hands bound, has been widely condemned as tasteless and insensitive.
The song, which has garnered over four lakh views and more than 3,500 likes on Instagram, has also received over 150 comments—many of them expressing disgust. One user wrote: “Making fun of someone’s murder should also be a crime in itself.” Another added: “This has crossed all limits of sensitivity. The government must intervene.”
The incident has once again raised uncomfortable questions about the trajectory of the Bhojpuri entertainment industry, which has previously faced criticism for vulgar lyrics and double meanings. However, critics say this instance marks a new low by trivialising a brutal murder and risking further damage to the perception of Bhojpuri culture and music.
