Big April for Patna: City to Get Three Key Infrastructure Projects, Including Double-Decker Bridge and Multimodal Hub

Patna: Residents of Bihar’s capital will witness the launch of three significant infrastructure projects this month. On April 22, a subway and a newly constructed multimodal transport hub near Patna Junction will be inaugurated. Just over a week later, on April 30, the much-anticipated double-decker bridge on Ashoka Rajpath will be opened to the public.
The double-decker flyover, stretching 2.2 kilometres from Kargil Chowk to Science College, promises smoother transit for students, commuters, patients, and traders navigating the congested old city zones. The lower deck, measuring 1.5 km, will run from Patna College to BN College, while the upper deck connects Gandhi Maidan to Science College. The bridge, built at a cost of Rs 422 crore, also features multiple connecting paths—including a 130-metre link near BN College and a separate access point near Krishna Ghat aligned with Patna Metro’s University station.
Painting work on the flyover is in its final stages, marking the last leg of construction on what will be one of the most complex elevated corridors in the city. Authorities anticipate that the bridge will significantly decongest Ashoka Rajpath, a key artery near several educational and heritage institutions.
Meanwhile, the four-storey multimodal hub near Patna Junction—constructed at a cost of Rs 78 crore—has been designed to streamline bus and private vehicle movement in one of the busiest transit areas of the city. The structure includes dedicated parking for 281 cars and bays for 33 buses, alongside charging stations for electric buses. A restaurant and three commercial shops have also been developed within the premises, offering both utility and convenience to commuters.
