Big Rise in Animal Product Output Gives Jobs and Boosts Rural Economy in Bihar.

Bihar has seen big growth in fish, milk, and egg production over the last 20 years, helping rural people find jobs and improve their income.

Patna: Bihar has seen a major increase in the production of milk, fish, eggs, and meat in the last 20 years, thanks to the state government’s agriculture road map. These changes have helped Bihar become self-reliant in fish production and improved the lives of many people in rural areas.

Fish production in the state rose from 2.68 lakh metric tonnes before 2005 to 8.73 lakh metric tonnes in 2023–24. Milk production increased from 4,743 thousand metric tonnes to over 12,852 thousand metric tonnes. Egg production saw the biggest jump, going from 79 crore to 344 crore during the same period. Meat production also more than doubled, from 176 thousand tonnes to 404 thousand tonnes.

The government started this campaign in 2005 and has so far introduced four agriculture road maps. These plans focused on improving farming, animal husbandry, and fisheries. As a result, many unemployed people in the state found work, and rural incomes have gone up.

The latest agricultural road map aims to take Bihar even further in fish and livestock production. The government hopes that this will improve the economic condition of farmers and create even more job opportunities in the future.
