Bihar Agricultural University Hosts ICT Training for Scientists Nationwide to Advance Agricultural Research

Patna: Scientists hailing from diverse corners of the country are set to immerse themselves in the intricate world of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and translate their newfound knowledge into actionable insights in their respective states at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour.

BAU, a prominent institution in the agricultural research landscape, has been chosen as one of the craft training providers under the CART program.

The Directorate of Extension Education at BAU will host this comprehensive training program from February 1st to February 24, 2024. During this period, visiting scientists will delve into various facets of digital communication, including digital storytelling, photography, video conferencing, film production, scriptwriting, e-marketplaces, and radio broadcasting. The goal is to equip scientists with a diverse skill set that can be harnessed to advance agricultural research and extension efforts across the nation.

This learning endeavor is a part of the Career Advancement Faculty Training Programme (CART), funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).

Dr. D.R. Singh, the Vice Chancellor of BAU, expressed his elation at the prospect of hosting this influential training program. He remarked, “We employ cutting-edge ICT models in the realm of agricultural extension, and scientists from institutions nationwide can gain valuable insights from our ICT model, which they can subsequently implement in their respective organizations.”

CART serves as a bridge for scientists associated with ICAR-affiliated institutions, including Central Agricultural Universities, State Agricultural Universities, Agricultural Science Centers, and other units under the ICAR umbrella. This innovative initiative facilitates training at institutions renowned for their exceptional work in specific domains.

The overarching theme of this intensive training program is the “Use of Latest Technology in ICT for Agricultural Extension and Research.”

Dr. R.K. Sohane, the Director of Extension Education, shed light on the program’s objectives. Scientists from across India will delve into the ICT models devised by Bihar Agricultural University, encompassing elements such as Community Radio Stations and Digital Storytelling. They will also receive training on leveraging social media for agricultural extension.
