Chaos Grips Bihar Assembly as Opposition Protests Intensify

Patna: Tensions flared in the Bihar Assembly on Tuesday as opposition legislators from the RJD and Congress staged vociferous protests, disrupting proceedings for the second consecutive day of the monsoon session. Some lawmakers were seen staging a sit-in at the Assembly gate, prompting marshals to intervene and physically remove them.

The ruckus, which began on Monday, centres on issues of voter list revision and the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. On the opening day, MLAs and MLCs from the Grand Alliance, including the CPI(ML), chanted slogans, brandished placards, and arrived at the Assembly dressed in black as a mark of protest.

Despite the disruption, the government tabled a supplementary budget of Rs 57,946 crore on Monday. The five-day session, scheduled to continue until Friday, is expected to be crucial, with the Nitish Kumar-led government planning to introduce 12 bills — four new and eight amendment bills.

The administration is aiming for swift passage of these legislative proposals through both the Assembly and Legislative Council. However, with opposition protests showing no signs of abating, the session is poised to remain contentious.
