Government Urges Chairman to Review Video of Pathak's Alleged Abuse Against Teachers and MLAs, Decision Pending

Patna: Tensions flared in the Bihar Assembly today during the ongoing budget session, marking the seventh day of deliberations, as the opposition mounted a vehement protest concerning KK Pathak, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Education Department, accusing him of disparaging remarks against teachers. The uproar led to the adjournment of the House proceedings until 11 am tomorrow.

Opposition leaders contended that Pathak had not only insulted teachers but also Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Former Education Minister showcased a video clip purportedly featuring Pathak’s derogatory comments, demanding his immediate dismissal and disciplinary action.

In response, Education Minister Vijay Chaudhary, representing the government, asserted that the opposition was systematically raising issues, all aligned in a singular direction.

“Opposition colleagues have brought up allegations of verbal abuse by KK Pathak in certain video or audio recordings. We addressed this issue in the Upper House yesterday, emphasizing that no officer, regardless of rank, holds the authority to denigrate even an ordinary citizen, let alone esteemed educators or honorable MLAs,” stated Chaudhary.

He further added, “If any requests have been submitted, the appropriate channels have been directed to review the evidence.”

The controversy surrounding Pathak intensified two days ago when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a change in school timings, extending the duration from 10 am to 4 pm. Subsequently, Pathak issued an order mandating teachers’ presence at schools by 9 am. The opposition’s agitation against Pathak’s directive prompted a ruckus in the House on Wednesday, with the Chief Minister staunchly defending Pathak, lauding his integrity and decision-making.

However, amid the escalating dissent, a video surfaced purportedly showing Pathak berating teachers during a meeting with education officers, further fueling demands for disciplinary measures against him.

Meanwhile, outside the Bihar Assembly, JD (U) MLA Gopal Mandal stirred controversy by alleging that the Superintendent of Police in Bhagalpur had an inclination towards alcohol and women. Mandal, who declared himself a Lok Sabha election candidate from Bhagalpur, vouched for Pathak’s character, attributing his notoriety to his efforts in enhancing the status of teachers.

Furthermore, Mandal asserted his candidacy for the Lok Sabha elections, confidently claiming to have secured the party ticket, while also disclosing plans for his brother’s candidacy in the upcoming assembly elections, despite health concerns.
