Patna: Athletes from Bihar are proving that poverty cannot stop their dreams. Many young boys and girls from the state are working hard every day to become champions. They want to make their families and the country proud. Despite facing financial problems, they are winning medals and showing their talent to the world.
One such athlete is 18-year-old Piyush from Rohtas. He lost his father and his family runs on his mother’s old age pension. To continue his practice, he worked in the mess at Patliputra Sports Complex. Two years ago, he won a gold medal wearing torn shoes. Now, with the support of Bihar State Sports Authority, he is training in Hyderabad. Recently, he qualified for the Junior Asia Championship in Hong Kong and the Junior World Championship in the USA.
Another shining star is Shatakshi Rai from Patna. She is doing her MTech from Bhubaneswar and is also a fast sprinter. She completed the 100-meter race faster than Olympian Shravani in the Indian Open Athletic Meet. Earlier this year, she won gold in Trivandrum. Shatakshi says her family first wanted her to focus only on studies but now supports her dream to play in Commonwealth and Asian Games.
Other athletes like Sunny Kumar in long jump, Vibhaskar in 100 meters, and Setu Mishra in 400 meters are also bringing glory to Bihar. They practice in different cities with the aim of representing India. These young players believe that one day they will achieve their goals and show the power of Bihar’s talent to the world.
