Bihar Bans Autos and E-Rickshaws for School Transport from April 1

Patna: The Bihar government has imposed a complete ban on the use of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws for transporting school children across all districts, effective April 1.
In this regard, the Traffic Division of Bihar Police Headquarters has issued a directive to the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of all districts, instructing them to ensure strict compliance. The Transport Department had earlier written to the Police Headquarters, urging enforcement of the ban.
E-Rickshaws Pose a Risk to School Children
According to a letter issued by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (Traffic), e-rickshaws are being used indiscriminately for school transportation, leading to serious road safety concerns and accidents.
To address this issue, all district SPs have been directed to prohibit the use of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws for school transport in their respective areas. They have also been asked to raise awareness about the ban among stakeholders, including school management, parents, and transport operators, to ensure its effective implementation.
Autos and e-rickshaws are widely used for school transport across both small and large districts, including Patna. Many of these vehicles exceed their passenger capacity, violating traffic regulations and increasing the risk of accidents.
