Bihar Bowlers Shine as Tripura Struggles on Day One of Vijay Merchant Trophy
Patna: Bihar’s bowlers put up a commanding performance on the opening day of their Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 match against Tripura, holding the opposition to 190 for 9 in 92 overs. The match, which began on Friday, is being played at MGM School Ground in Cuttack, Odisha.
Tripura won the toss and opted to bat first but faced an early collapse as Bihar’s bowlers reduced them to 60 for 5. A crucial 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Sandipan Das (48) and Prasannajit Chakraborty (26) provided some stability, while minor contributions from the lower order helped Tripura inch towards a respectable score.
At stumps on Day One, Tripura’s Kishan Sarkar (14*) and Shubhdeep Paul (14*) were unbeaten at the crease. The top contributors for Tripura included Sandipan Das (48), Prasannajit Chakraborty (26), Adi Debnath (19), and Prithiraj Gop (19).
Bihar’s bowlers were in fine form, with Aryan Patel leading the attack, claiming 3 wickets for 42 runs. Animesh Raj also bagged 3 wickets, conceding just 31 runs, while Satyam Raj and Abhijeet Singh chipped in with 2 for 43 and 1 for 5, respectively.
The match resumes tomorrow with Tripura looking to add crucial runs and Bihar aiming to wrap up the innings swiftly to gain the upper hand.
