Kolhapur/Araria: A disturbing case of a student’s murder has emerged from a madrasa in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, where an 11-year-old boy from Bihar was allegedly killed by his classmate in a chilling attempt to get the institute shut for leave.

The incident took place at the Nizamia Madrasa in Alate village, where over 90 children are enrolled for religious education. The victim, identified as Faizan Nazim, hailed from Araria district in Bihar. According to police, the incident occurred in the early hours of June 16, when Faizan was found unresponsive at the madrasa.

Officers from the Hatkanangale police station arrived at the scene after being alerted to the boy’s suspicious death around 5am. Investigations involving CCTV footage and the questioning of fellow students led authorities to a shocking revelation.

A fellow minor student—also from Bihar—reportedly confessed to stuffing a cloth ball into Faizan’s mouth before administering an electric shock, leading to his death. The motive, according to police, was to trigger a closure of the madrasa, allowing him to return home.

“The name of the dead child is Faizan, who is a resident of Bihar. When they went to wake up the child during the morning Azaan, then the incident came to light. Police and family members have been informed in this regard,” said Maulana Margvuburrahman, a teacher at the madrasa.

Due to the age of the accused, police involved the District Women and Child Development Officer, Child Welfare Committee members and a psychiatrist in the interrogation process. The child ultimately confessed to the murder in their presence.

Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Yogesh Kumar confirmed the confession and added that further investigation is underway to determine whether other minors were involved. Two additional students are currently being questioned.

“This is a tragic case involving two children. A student from Bihar was murdered by his friend in Nizamia Madrasa of Alate village. The minor boy has confessed his crime in front of a psychiatrist. Further investigation is currently underway,” said Kumar.

Police have assured that a thorough probe is being conducted to uncover all aspects of the incident, as authorities and the local community grapple with the shock of the tragedy.
