Patna: In a sweeping decision ahead of the state elections, the Bihar Cabinet has approved 47 proposals aimed at strengthening governance and generating employment. The move includes the creation of thousands of new government posts across multiple departments, with the largest share—2,422 jobs—sanctioned in the Education Department.

The decisions were made during a cabinet meeting held on June 3, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. As part of the reforms in the education sector, 935 posts of Assistant Education Development Officers (Pay Level-5) and 568 posts of Education Development Officers (Pay Level-6) have been approved under the newly framed Bihar Education Administration Cadre Rules. Additionally, the cabinet cleared the creation of 2 Land Estate Officer posts and 38 Assistant Land Estate Officer posts to verify, document, and safeguard land belonging to government schools and education offices.

To further strengthen educational infrastructure, 818 posts will be created within the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, and 63 posts have been sanctioned for the Bihar Education Project Council. At the same time, 9 existing posts of Executive Engineers in the corporation have been surrendered.

The cabinet also approved the establishment of Project Area Authorities in all 38 districts of Bihar under the Urban Development and Housing Department. This will lead to the creation of 1,350 new posts by reallocating 147 previously sanctioned posts from seven existing authorities in Bodhgaya, Gaya, Rajgir, Bihar Sharif, Ara, Muzaffarpur, and Saharsa.

In another key move, 390 posts have been sanctioned in the Women and Child Development Corporation to address domestic violence and strengthen women’s protection services at the state, district, and subdivision levels.

The cabinet’s wide-ranging decisions also include:
• 653 contractual posts in Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Union Limited, Patna
• 15 stenographer posts under the Bihar Public Service Commission
• One under-secretary post, 22 branch officer posts, and 28 additional roles for strengthening the Public Health Engineering Department
• One Land Estate Officer post for the Road Construction Department, Patna
• Two driver posts in the Governor’s Secretariat

Together, these measures reflect the Bihar government’s pre-election push to expand employment, enhance administrative capacity, and invest in key sectors like education, infrastructure, and social welfare.
