Bihar: Car Hits 5 People In Separate Incidents, Mob Damage Vehicle And Beat Passengers

Darbhanga accident

Darbhanga – A speeding car hit five people at two locations around 9 pm on Saturday. The driver, managing to escape the angry crowd, left the five passengers to face the wrath of the mob. In the ensuing violence, a police constable from Kotwali OP, who attempted to intervene and save the victims, was beaten by the enraged crowd.

The speeding car was travelling from Darbhanga station towards Donar when it lost control near a petrol pump, leading to a series of tragic events. The car first crushed Rakhi Kumari (14) and Prince Kumar (16) near Donar Chowk, leading to an uproar among the witnesses. The driver tried to escape towards Naka 5, but the vehicle collided with an electricity pole.

Subsequently, three intermediate students—Chandan Kumar, Rahul Kumar, and Hrithik Kumar—from Mauli village in the Baheri Police Station area were also hit by the car. As the car came to a stop, the driver fled, leaving the passengers at the mercy of an angry mob. Witnesses reported that all the passengers, including the driver, were intoxicated at the time of the accident.

The chaos continued as the police, arriving from Kotwali and other stations, attempted to control the situation. The crowd turned violent, pelting stones and bricks at the police personnel. Eventually, the police managed to bring the situation under control with the arrival of reinforcements from Sadar, Benta, Kotwali, and the traffic police station, led by Sadar SDPO Amit Kumar.

All 11 injured individuals, including the passengers and the assaulted police constable, were rushed to Darbhanga Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for treatment. Several miscreants involved in the violent episode have been detained, and the police are conducting further investigations into the tragic incident.
