Buxar – Tensions escalated at Chausa Mahadeva Ghat of Mofussil police station as clashes broke out between two puja committees vying for supremacy in installing a statue. Sticks, bricks, and stones were wielded from both sides, resulting in half a dozen injuries. The injured were rushed to Chausa PHC for treatment, with two in critical condition referred to Sadar Hospital.

The confrontation unfolded on Saturday night at 10 pm when Mahadeva’s puja committee attempted to set up a tent to house the idol. In a bid to prevent the idol’s installation, the Kathgharwa faction started dismantling the tent, sparking a fierce altercation.

Local claims clashed with the assertion that Kathgharwa residents had been managing arrangements at the ghat for 50 years. The dispute reached a boiling point, prompting police intervention. Authorities pacified the situation and transported the injured to Chausa PHC, where two individuals with severe injuries were further referred to Sadar Hospital.

Mufassil Police Station Head Rahul Kumar confirmed police response upon receiving information about the incident. He assured that the injured were promptly attended to at Chausa PHC for initial treatment.

Rakesh Kumar, 30, a resident of Kathgharwa, and Prem Prakash Vidyarthi, 28, suffered serious injuries during the clash. Vidyarthi sustained a fractured head, requiring multiple stitches. Although reports suggested damage to a statue of Surya, Vidyarthi clarified that the dispute centered around the tent and not the idol, with no information on statue damage during the altercation.
