Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Advocates Special State Status, Envisions Poverty Eradication in Two Years
Munger: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accompanied by Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, made a renewed plea for the special category status for Bihar during an event in Munger’s Baank Panchayat on Saturday. The occasion marked the foundation stone laying of a medical college cum hospital, where CM Nitish inaugurated a new 100-bed pre-fabricated ward and a 32-bed Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) ward at Sadar Hospital.
In his address, Nitish underscored the his government’s commitment to state’s development, emphasizing the need for special status. He asserted that despite their efforts, the state is not receiving adequate support from the Centre. He maintained that if Bihar is granted special status, poverty could be eradicated within two years, bringing the state in line with developed counterparts.
The Chief Minister touched upon various issues, including caste census, reservation policies, and the ongoing demand for special category status. He expressed his willingness to launch a campaign if the Center does not accede to Bihar’s request.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment to social welfare, Nitish noted that after the caste survey in Bihar, reservations based on population have been increased for economically weaker sections. The reservation, previously at 60%, was raised to 75% through unanimous approval in the Assembly and Legislative Council.
The Bihar CM emphasized that the government’s development initiatives are inclusive, benefiting all sections of society, regardless of caste or class. He commended the historical significance of Munger and affirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare facilities in the region.
Expressing gratitude to Munger MP Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh for his tireless efforts in advancing the medical college and hospital project, CM Nitish hinted at Singh being the JD (U) candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, urging the people of Munger to support him.
During the event, Nitish directed additional chief secretary of health department Pratyaya Amrit to increase the number of beds in the hospital from 630 to better cater to the historical city’s needs. He emphasized the government’s impartiality, asserting that there is no discrimination between Hindus and Muslims, and outlined financial assistance programs for the unemployed and those seeking land and housing.
As the Chief Minister concluded his address, he reiterated the government’s commitment to development, urging unity and collective efforts for Bihar’s progress.
