Patna: The much-awaited Mithapur-Mahuli elevated road in Patna is all set to open for vehicles this month, bringing big relief to people travelling towards Jehanabad, Gaya, and Biharsharif. Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin made the announcement during a site visit on Saturday. He said that once the road opens, the 11 km stretch between Sipara and Mahuli can be covered in just 10 minutes.
The minister said the road, being built at a cost of over Rs 1,400 crore, will greatly benefit people living in South Patna. It will also improve transportation in areas like Sampatchak and Punpun. The elevated road between Sipara and Mahuli is now complete, and work on the ramp near Bhupatipur is almost finished. Final touches such as painting and lighting are underway.
The project is being built in two phases. In the first phase, a 6.7 km four-lane road with a 5.4 km elevated section has been built between Sipara and Mahuli. In the second phase, a 4.3 km stretch is being constructed from Mithapur to Sipara and Mahuli to Punpun, which includes another elevated road of 2.1 km. There are also plans to connect this road to Sampatchak Road.
Once complete, the road will become part of a larger 4-lane circular route linking Patna, Gaya, Biharsharif, and Bakhtiyarpur through national highways. This route will also improve access to Buddhist sites like Gaya and Rajgir and help reduce traffic jams. A rail overbridge near Sipara is also planned, with a target to finish by November.
