Purnia/ Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chaired a high-level security meeting in Purnia on Saturday, reviewing preparedness in border districts amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

With Bihar on high alert, the meeting brought together senior officials from the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), state police, railway administration and district authorities to assess security arrangements in sensitive regions bordering Nepal and West Bengal.

Held at the Collectorate in Purnia, the review covered a range of issues including surveillance and patrolling along the border, protection of key installations and religious sites, and prevention of narcotics smuggling, illegal firearms trafficking and human trafficking.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary and senior cabinet minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary were also present during the review. CM Nitish directed officials to remain on alert and work in close coordination with central paramilitary forces and the Indian Army. He also emphasised strengthening the district-level civil defence, fire, and medical systems as part of disaster preparedness measures.

Seven key areas were discussed during the meeting, which also involved the Station Commander of Chunapur Airbase, the Divisional Railway Manager of Katihar, commissioners of Purnia and Kosi divisions, DMs and SPs of Purnia, Katihar, Araria, Kishanganj and Supaul, and IGs and DIGs of the concerned police ranges.

The Chief Minister arrived in Purnia by helicopter, landing on the grounds of Purnia College, before proceeding to the Collectorate by road. After the meeting, he returned to Patna the same day.

Security officials from BSF Siliguri and SSB Patna briefed the CM on the current border situation and measures in place along Bihar’s frontier with Nepal and Bengal.
