Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today inaugurated the newly constructed Patna Collectorate, a state-of-the-art administrative complex designed to streamline public services and preserve the city’s historical heritage. Unveiling the stone plaque and cutting the ceremonial ribbon, CM Nitish toured the premises, which includes modern facilities spread across five floors, a basement, and landscaped green spaces.

During the inspection, officials briefed the Chief Minister on the facilities and seating arrangements for various departments. CM Nitish also visited an area near the main entrance where eight iconic Dutch-style pillars from the old Collectorate building have been preserved within an iron frame, respecting the site’s historical significance. He commended the preservation effort, calling it a “thoughtful integration of history with modernity.”

Addressing officials, CM Nitish highlighted the significance of the new building, stating, “This Collectorate is a testament to our vision. There is no building like this anywhere in the country. It will provide significant convenience to people, who will no longer need to navigate multiple locations for administrative tasks.”

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of proper maintenance and directed officials to resolve public grievances in a timely, transparent, and efficient manner. He also praised the installation of solar panels, which will reduce energy consumption, calling it a “step toward sustainability.”

On the ground floor, CM Nitish appreciated quotes by Mahatma Gandhi, including his iconic “Seven Social Sins,” engraved on the walls. He noted that these messages would inspire the younger generation to promote social harmony and environmental awareness.

The new Collectorate, built at a cost of Rs. 188.42 crore, features advanced facilities such as open parking for 205 vehicles and basement parking for 240 vehicles. The construction began in 2022 after delays due to the pandemic and a Supreme Court ban on construction. The project was completed within 18 months.

As part of efforts to preserve the historical legacy of the old Patna Collectorate, a subject of legal deliberation in Patna High Court, its iconic Dutch pillars—constructed from bricks and showcasing European architecture—have been prominently displayed on the premises.
