Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Makes Controversial Comment During Pragati Yatra in Begusarai
Begusarai: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his Pragati Yatra visit to Begusarai on Saturday, sparked controversy with a comment while interacting with Jeevika workers. Speaking to the women, Kumar said: “Did any girl wear clothes earlier? Now it has become so good. Everyone is wearing clothes. Earlier, I couldn’t even bring this up, but now I always speak with Jeevika Didis wherever I go.”
The remark, seen as a gaffe, drew attention on social media and in political circles. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary were also present during the interaction.
Earlier, during a similar event in Samastipur, Nitish acknowledged the role of women in society, saying, “Mother has given birth to all of us.” This prompted a light moment when Deputy CM Choudhary remarked, “Let’s go, sir… it’s done.”
In Begusarai’s Maniyappa village, Matihani block, CM Nitish launched several schemes and inspected stalls set up by Jeevika and the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS). He also inaugurated a newly constructed pond and participated in a symbolic fish-seeding ceremony.
Security was tight for the visit, with the unusual arrangement of two helipads at three locations to ensure smooth logistics. This marks Nitish’s eighth visit to Begusarai but the first with such extensive preparations.
