Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Transfers Over Rs 271 Crore to Over 62 Lakh Beneficiaries Under Welfare Schemes

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday transferred over Rs 271 crore to more than 62 lakh beneficiaries under Bihar’s social security and women’s welfare schemes through direct benefit transfer.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday disbursed over Rs 271 crore directly to the bank accounts of more than 62 lakh beneficiaries under various social welfare schemes, including the Social Security Pension Scheme and the Chief Minister Kanya Utthan Yojana.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said the direct benefit transfer (DBT) programme ensures transparency and timely assistance to the intended recipients. Of the total Rs 271.15 crore, Rs 254.45 crore was transferred to 61.29 lakh beneficiaries across five social pension schemes, while Rs 16.70 crore was sent to 85,556 girls under the Chief Minister Kanya Utthan Yojana.

“This is a matter of happiness and satisfaction,” CM Nitish said. “Today, Rs 112.14 crore has been provided by the Centre and Rs 68.93 crore by the State under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, Disability Pension, and Widow Pension Schemes. In addition, Rs 90.08 crore has been released entirely by the State Government under the Bihar Disability Pension Scheme, Laxmibai Social Security Pension Scheme, and Kanya Utthan Yojana.”

Detailed allocations included:

  • Rs 38.68 crore for 9.64 lakh beneficiaries under the Bihar Disability Pension Scheme.
  • Rs 34.69 crore for 8.63 lakh beneficiaries under the Laxmibai Pension Scheme.
  • Rs 89.83 crore from the Centre and Rs 61.48 crore from the State for 35.59 lakh under the Old Age Pension Scheme.
  • Rs 3.31 crore from the Centre and Rs 1.10 crore from the State for 1.10 lakh under the Disability Pension Scheme.
  • Rs 18.99 crore from the Centre and Rs 6.33 crore from the State for 6.32 lakh under the Widow Pension Scheme.
  • Rs 16.70 crore under the Chief Minister Kanya Utthan Yojana.

The Chief Minister acknowledged the central government’s support and urged the Social Welfare Department to further spread awareness about the schemes so more people can benefit.

Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, Bandana Preyashi, welcomed the Chief Minister at the event by presenting a green plant as a token of gratitude and environmental consciousness.
