Bihar Deploys 397 Engineers to Boost Urban Development, Patna Metro a Key Focus

Patna: The Bihar government has deployed 397 junior engineers across various municipal bodies and urban agencies in a push to accelerate infrastructure development and improve civic services. The engineers have been assigned to key institutions, including the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC), the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo), and the Bihar Housing Board.
Recruited through the Bihar Technical Service Commission, the newly appointed engineers include 350 from the civil stream, 35 from mechanical, and 12 from electrical. They have been directed to join their respective postings within a week, submitting essential documents such as proof of qualification and residence.
Patna Metro Gets Priority
The appointments come as Bihar prepares to launch the priority corridor of the Patna Metro by August 15, 2025—a flagship project under intense government focus. To accelerate its progress, 19 engineers have been assigned to PMRC, including 11 civil, four electrical, and four mechanical professionals.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Jivesh Kumar said the deployment would play a crucial role in executing and monitoring urban infrastructure projects. “This large-scale recruitment will not only ensure timely execution of critical projects but also significantly improve service delivery for urban residents,” he said.
Strengthening Bihar’s Urban Backbone
The engineers have been stationed across municipal corporations, councils, and other urban local bodies to enhance infrastructure efficiency at the ground level. Key projects under their purview include the Samrat Ashok Bhawan, new administrative buildings, and the Jal Jeevan Hariyali Mission.
With Bihar witnessing rapid urbanisation, officials say strengthening technical manpower is a crucial step in meeting growing demands for improved civic services, including drainage, drinking water, roads, and housing. The move is seen as part of the state’s broader push to modernise its urban framework and ensure long-term infrastructure sustainability.
