Patna: The historic Gandhi Maidan has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub as Bihar gears up for an unprecedented Bihar Diwas celebration from March 22 to 26. With an expanded exhibition space, interactive displays, and a packed schedule of performances, this year’s event—centered around the theme “Unnat Bihar – Vikasit Bihar” (Progressive Bihar – Developed Bihar)—promises to be the largest yet.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the five-day festival, which is being spearheaded by the Education Department. The event, open to all with free entry, features pavilions from various government departments showcasing development initiatives and welfare schemes.

In a significant expansion, the exhibition area has been increased to 1.25 lakh square feet, ten times larger than the previous year. A major highlight will be student-made models, award-winning paintings, and innovative teaching materials designed by teachers, on display from March 22 to 24. The effort aims to deepen public engagement with the state’s advancements in education.

Health services will also take center stage, with the Health Department setting up 15 free health stalls on March 22 and 23, offering sugar tests, expert consultations, and HPV vaccinations. A dedicated vaccination counter will provide 12 disease-prevention vaccines under the supervision of a civil surgeon and senior doctors.

The festival will offer a visually immersive experience, with 3D replicas of Bihar’s most iconic sites, including the Mahabodhi Temple, Nalanda University, Vishwa Shanti Stupa, and Takht Sri Harimandir Patna Sahib. A dedicated tourism information center will promote the state’s tourism policy and investment opportunities.

In addition, Bihar’s traditional industries will be in the spotlight, with stalls featuring handloom, handicrafts, leather, jute, and lacquer products. Local artisans and entrepreneurs will get a platform to connect with potential investors and buyers.

Cultural Extravaganza Across Patna

Beyond Gandhi Maidan, cultural performances will take place at Rabindra Bhavan and Premchand Rangshala. A special drama festival focused on women-centric themes will feature an all-women cast, while street plays will raise awareness about pressing social issues.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the event will include selfie points at Marine Drive and other locations, ensuring visitors can capture moments from the grand celebration.

A Tapestry of Art and Tradition

In a unique move, government officials will also take part in cultural events, with Alok Raj, Director General of Bihar State Building Construction Corporation Limited, set to perform a musical piece on March 23 at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall.

With an impressive blend of heritage, progress, and artistic expression, Bihar Diwas 2024 is poised to be a spectacular tribute to the state’s journey of development and cultural richness.
