Patna: In a bid to strengthen conservation efforts and safeguard a vital ecological asset, Bihar’s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr Sunil Kumar visited the Gokul reservoir in Buxar district on Thursday. The inspection marked a renewed push by the state to protect one of its important natural water bodies.
Dr Kumar assessed the current state of the reservoir, evaluating water quality, ecological balance, and the progress of ongoing preservation initiatives. Speaking with district officials and environment department staff, the minister underscored the reservoir’s dual role as a crucial water source and a habitat for local flora and fauna.
“Gokul reservoir is more than a water body—it is an environmental lifeline for this region,” he said, instructing authorities to ensure cleanliness, protect aquatic life, and maintain the overall ecological health of the area.
He also stressed the importance of public participation, urging local communities to take active roles in conservation efforts. “Sustainable protection of the reservoir will require community engagement, awareness, and responsibility,” he noted.
Dr Kumar directed officials to cultivate a hospitable environment for trees, wildlife, and birds surrounding the reservoir, making it clear that conservation efforts must be holistic.
Accompanied by senior officials from the Environment and Forest Departments as well as representatives from the district administration, the minister was briefed on current and planned schemes related to the site.
