Bihar Extends Service of SAP Jawans, Approves Rs 43.66 Crore for Salaries

The Bihar government has extended the contract of over 1,700 Special Auxiliary Police personnel to help maintain law and order in the state.

Patna: The Bihar government has decided to extend the service of 1,717 Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) personnel who are working under contract with the state police. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced this move on Tuesday, calling it an important step to strengthen internal security and maintain peace in the state.

The extension includes 1,698 SAP jawans, 10 Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and 9 cooks. Their contracts will now continue until the end of the financial year 2025–26. To support this, the state government has approved a budget of Rs 43.66 crore for their salaries and other related costs.

The SAP was first created in 2006 to support Bihar Police in controlling violence, dealing with extremist activities, and improving law and order. Most SAP personnel are retired soldiers from the Indian Army, hired on a temporary basis to bring their experience and discipline into civil policing.

Choudhary said this decision not only helps strengthen the police force but also gives retired army jawans a chance to continue serving the country. He added that the government will continue to take such steps to ensure the safety of people in Bihar.
