Bihar: Five Family Members Swept Away by River, Mother and Son Still Missing
Aurangabad: Five members of a family were swept away by the strong currents of the Batane river on Tuesday night, around 8 pm. The family was traveling on a bike from Dev towards Mahua Dham in the Kutumba police station area when they attempted to cross an alternative route near a river bridge. The overflowing river engulfed them, leading to a desperate rescue effort by local villagers and divers.
Out of the five individuals, three were rescued with the help of local divers and villagers. The rescued include Sheela Devi (45), a resident of Pakhnour in the Kasama police station area, Santosh Pal, and his two-year-old son, Satyam Kumar, both from Dadhpi village in the Goh police station area. All three are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at the Kutumba Referral Hospital.
However, Santosh Pal’s wife, Priyanka Devi, and their one-year-old son, Abhyam Kumar, remain missing. Despite ongoing rescue efforts, they have not yet been found.
Local authorities, including Amba Circle Officer Chandraprakash, Block Development Officer Manoj Kumar, and police officials from Amba Police Station, swiftly reached the spot following reports of the incident. The search for the missing mother and son is being coordinated with local divers, and an SDRF team is expected to arrive to intensify the rescue operations.
Local resident Ramesh Kumar Pal, who was part of the rescue team, said, “We managed to pull out three people, who are now being treated at the hospital. They were all on the same bike, heading towards Mahua Dham.”
