Bihar Floods: Nitish Kumar Takes Aerial View, Death Toll Rises
Patna: Bihar and neighboring Nepal continue to reel under relentless heavy rainfall, causing widespread flooding and tragic fatalities across the region. The incessant downpour has pushed river levels dangerously above their limits, inundating several districts and displacing thousands of residents.
In Bihar, regions like Supaul, Bagaha, and Bettiah are grappling with flood-like situations as rivers such as Gandak and Kosi surge beyond the danger mark. Approximately 5 lakh residents across 27 panchayats in Supaul alone have been severely affected by the rising waters. In Bettiah, over 450 families from Jalarpur Khutwania and Siswa-Mangalpur Panchayat areas are reportedly stranded due to inundation.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, responding to the crisis, conducted aerial surveys over the flood-affected districts of West Champaran, East Champaran, and Gopalganj to assess the escalating situation firsthand.
Meanwhile, the havoc extended to Kaimur district’s Rohtas region, where heavy rains on Sunday triggered a dramatic waterfall at Mahadev Khoh, causing significant damage to local flower and prasad shops near the temple.
The toll from the calamity continues to rise with the Meteorological Center reporting 10 deaths due to lightning strikes in various Bihar districts over the past 24 hours. In response to the ongoing crisis, authorities have issued rain alerts across 17 districts of Bihar, cautioning residents about the likelihood of further downpours and accompanying lightning strikes.
