Bihar Goverment to Offer Cashless Treatment Up to Rs 1.5 Lakh for Road Accident Victims

Bihar will provide cashless hospital treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for road accident victims under a new emergency care scheme.

Patna: Road accident victims in Bihar will now be eligible for cashless treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh in designated hospitals, as the state gears up to implement the Centre’s 2025 cashless treatment scheme for road injuries.

The initiative ensures that individuals injured in road accidents receive treatment without any upfront payment for up to seven days at approved hospitals. The move is aimed at removing financial hurdles to timely care, ultimately saving lives.

Both government and private hospitals equipped with trauma and poly-trauma care facilities will be included in the scheme. If a designated hospital lacks the necessary infrastructure, it will be required to refer the patient to a better-equipped facility and provide ambulance transport.

“The government is committed to providing timely and appropriate care to accident victims,” said Transport Secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudkalkatti, highlighting that early treatment can be life-saving.

The State Road Safety Council will act as the nodal agency for implementation. A portal, being developed by the National Health Authority, will allow hospitals to upload treatment details and associated costs. Once the patient is discharged, the hospital will submit its claim, which will then be verified by the State Health Agency before government reimbursement.
