Bihar Government Appoints Ministers as District In-Charges

Patna: The Bihar government has appointed 35 ministers as in-charges of various districts across the state. The move, formalised through a notification by the Cabinet Secretariat on Thursday, aims to enhance administrative accountability and accelerate the implementation of government schemes on the ground.

The ministers will serve as Chairpersons of District Programme Implementation Committees, responsible for monitoring projects, conducting inspections, holding review meetings, and addressing public grievances.

Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha have been given charge of Patna and Muzaffarpur, respectively. Other key assignments include Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary for Purnia and Nalanda, Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav for Vaishali, and Rural Development Minister Shrawan Kumar for Samastipur and Madhepura.

Senior JD (U) leader Ashok Choudhary will oversee Sitamarhi and Jehanabad, while Sunil Kumar has been tasked with East Champaran, Jivesh Kumar with Nawada, and Sheela Kumari with Lakhisarai. Sanjay Saraogi, Dr Sunil Kumar, and Krishna Kumar Mantoo have been assigned Begusarai, Gaya, and Munger, respectively.

According to officials, ministers will be expected to make routine visits to their designated districts, evaluate the status of ongoing development schemes, and ensure that bottlenecks are addressed swiftly in coordination with local officials. The reallocation is part of a wider administrative strategy to bring political oversight closer to the grassroots, especially in the lead-up to the 2025 Assembly elections.
