Shivdeep Lande, a 2006 batch IPS officer from Maharashtra, resigned from service on September 19, 2024, while serving as IG in Purnia. Before his resignation was accepted, he was transferred to the headquarters and assigned the role of IG Training. His resignation was finally approved by President Draupadi Murmu on January 13, with the Home Department issuing the notification on January 14.

Lande gained fame in Bihar for his tough policing and high-profile actions. One of his most talked-about incidents was in January 2015, when he caught a corrupt police inspector, Sarvchand, at Patna’s Dak Bungalow Square while disguised in a dupatta. The inspector was accused of demanding a bribe from two businessmen. Though Lande managed to arrest him, the case was later dismissed due to a lack of evidence.

Meanwhile, the resignation of another Bihar cadre IPS officer, Kamya Mishra, is still pending. A 2019 batch officer, she submitted her resignation on August 5, 2024, citing personal reasons. Known as “Lady Singham,” she expressed her desire to leave the service and support her family’s business.

This resignation has also brought back memories of former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey, whose VRS request in 2020 was immediately approved by the government. He had resigned to contest elections, though he later withdrew from the race. With Lande’s resignation now final, all eyes are on his next move, whether it be politics, spirituality, or something else entirely.
