Patna: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary said in a press conference at the JD (U) office on Tuesday that the Supreme Court has yet to reject the Bihar government’s appeal regarding the increase in reservation limits for Dalits, extremely backward, and backward classes. A decision will be made after a full hearing. The Bihar government remains optimistic that the Supreme Court will uphold their decision, which is based on socio-economic data from the caste census.
Chaudhary criticized opposition leaders for debating the proposal to include this law in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution, describing their actions as an attempt to maintain relevance. He emphasized that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has already recommended its inclusion in the 9th Schedule. With the High Court having repealed the law, Choudhary called the opposition’s discussions on the matter “ridiculous.”
He assured that the government is vigilantly handling the case in the Supreme Court, aiming to sustain the law. Further discussions on including the law in the 9th Schedule will only occur after the Supreme Court’s decision.
